Playing in a Tournament
Playing in a Tournament
A tournament is an organised event at a venue: everyone registers, the host makes the draw, and Rack Up tells you where and when to play. Every rack you play counts toward your rating, the same as any other game.
Joining
- Scan the tournament's QR code at the venue, or open it from the Tournaments page.
- Tap Register. You need a Rack Up account; if you don't have one, you can create it on the spot and you'll come straight back.
- If registration has closed, you may be offered Join the waitlist. The host can add you from it at any time.
Checking in
When you arrive, open the tournament and tap I'm here: check me in. This tells the host you're in the building. Checking in for a tournament also checks you in at the venue.
Your match page
Once the tournament starts, your tournament page always shows what happens next for you:
- You're up: your match has been called. The page shows your table and your opponent. Go to the table and tap Start the match.
- Up next or Waiting for a table: your match is ready and gets a table as soon as one is free. The page shows your place in the queue.
- Waiting: your next match opens when the round before it is finished.
- Bye: you sit this round out and go straight to the next one.
Keep the page open. It updates by itself, and you also get a notification in Rack Up when you are called.
Don't be late
When a match is called, a clock starts. If you are not at the table when it runs out, the host can forfeit the match or give your place to someone on the waitlist.
Playing the match
A match is one or more racks, depending on the format (a single game, a race to a number, or best of a number).
- Tap Start the match, then score the rack the way you score any game.
- Both players confirm the result of each rack.
- Tap Start the next rack until the match is decided. The running score is on your match page.
If a rack is disputed, the match pauses until the host has sorted it out.
If the host has given your match a scorekeeper, they keep score and you just play.
Between stages
Some tournaments have more than one stage, for example pools followed by a playoff bracket. When a stage finishes, your page shows where you stand and whether you are above or below the line for the next stage. Nothing is final until the host starts the next stage.
When it's over
The tournament finishes by itself as soon as the champion is decided. Your page then shows:
- your final placing, your match and rack record, and your rating going in and coming out;
- your all-time record against each player you met;
- a link to your path through the tournament.
The results page stays up permanently and can be shared with the Share button. Your finished tournaments are also listed on your stats page.
Withdrawing
Tap Withdraw from the tournament on your tournament page. The results you have already played stand. Once play has begun you cannot rejoin.
